What Must A Buyer State Before Asking A Sportswear Factory For An MOQ?

A useful MOQ answer starts with a defined production lot. Buyers should state the style count, colourways, size split, materials, decoration, destination labels, inspection plan, packing and delivery basis before comparing minimums.

Quick Answer

What Should OEM and sourcing Buyers Know?

There is no official universal MOQ for custom sportswear, and a factory cannot quote one responsibly from a product name alone. Ask for separate minimums by finished style, fabric or material, colourway, decoration process, custom trim or label, and packing variant. Submit the intended market, exact quantity by style-colour-size, fabric construction, artwork method and placements, private-label content, sample stage, inspection lot, pack-out, destination, requested arrival date and shipping basis. Current official sources show why these fields matter: ISO 8559-2 bases clothing size designation on body dimensions; US, UK and EU rules make textile label content destination-dependent; the EU General Product Safety Regulation adds product identification and economic-operator information for covered consumer products; ISO 2859-1:2026 treats acceptance sampling by production lot; and US government export guidance distinguishes quotation, commercial-invoice, packing-list and Incoterm responsibilities. A buyer should compare suppliers only after each has priced the same controlled brief and disclosed which component creates each minimum.

Ask Which Minimum The Factory Is Quoting

MOQ is not one technical standard. It is a commercial minimum created by the production steps and purchased components in a particular order. A jersey body, matching short, woven main label, heat-transfer crest, printed player number, custom polybag and export carton may each have a different economical batch. A supplier that replies only with one order-wide number has not shown which part of the brief controls that answer.

Send a line-item matrix and ask the factory to return separate minimums per finished style, base fabric, dyed or printed colourway, decoration method, custom trim, label, packaging item and shipment. Also ask whether different adult and youth patterns can share a material batch, whether sizes can be mixed inside one colourway, and whether personalised names or numbers change the minimum or only the unit cost. The answer must describe the exact quoted configuration; it should not be treated as a permanent factory-wide promise.

Use one stable style code and revision for every line. State whether the request is a new development, a repeat of an approved sample or a changed reorder. If two suppliers price different fabrics, artwork processes, label sets or inspection obligations, their MOQ figures are not comparable. First align the scope, then compare the disclosed constraints, sample requirements, exclusions and total quantities.

Release Quantity By Style, Colour And Size

Do not write 200 mixed kits and ask for the lowest MOQ. List every garment separately: jersey, short, sock, training top, tracksuit or accessory. For each style, give the colourway, wearer group, size label, quantity and any player-specific decoration. Reconcile the row totals to the order total. This lets the factory see whether it is planning one repeatable production lot or many short variants that require separate patterns, prints, trims or packing.

ISO 8559-2:2025 specifies primary and secondary dimension indicators for clothing size designation based on body measurements. That does not prescribe an Olinc size chart or factory minimum. It shows why adult small, youth medium and women's medium cannot be treated as interchangeable production data. State the body-measurement basis, approved finished-garment table and quantity for each size system. If the buyer wants a new fit block, identify the sizes required in the development or size set before requesting bulk pricing.

Keep stock units separate from personalised units. A repeated jersey body may support several player names and numbers, but a goalkeeper colour, sponsor variant, women's pattern or youth construction can create another production path. Ask the supplier to mark which rows can be combined and why. Do not improve the apparent MOQ by hiding low-quantity variants inside an order-wide total.

Define Materials, Colour And Decoration Before Comparing Minimums

Name each material by construction and intended panel, not by a broad phrase such as performance polyester. Record the fibre composition supplied for verification, target mass and tolerance where relevant, stretch direction, finish, colour reference and approved swatch or article code. If the jersey body, mesh panel, rib and elastic are different materials, give each its own line. Ask whether the quote assumes available stock, a custom colour, a custom knit or a substituted article.

Decoration also needs a method and placement. State whether each crest, sponsor, number and name is sublimated, embroidered, transferred or sewn, then give finished dimensions, colours, file revision and quantity. A full-sublimation colourway may be grouped differently from a jersey using embroidered badges and individual transfers. The buyer should ask which decoration setup creates a minimum, which variable data can be mixed and which test or sample is included.

Destination label rules make fibre identity a quotation input, not a note to add later. The FTC says covered US textiles disclose generic fibre names and percentages by weight, the manufacturer or marketer identity and the country of processing or manufacture. UK guidance requires fibre content and separate content for components with different compositions. EU Regulation 1007/2011 controls permitted fibre names and the presentation of composition information. Supply buyer-approved label data for the intended market before asking the factory to price custom labels or packaging.

Quote Private Labels And Traceability As Components

List the main brand label, size pip, fibre and care label, country-of-origin wording, hang tag, barcode, product identifier, bag mark and carton mark separately. For every item, specify artwork revision, finished dimensions, substrate, fold or attachment method, colour count, language and quantity. Ask for the component minimum, any setup charge, unused-balance treatment and storage period instead of assuming the garment MOQ automatically covers all branded trims.

For covered consumer products placed on the EU market, the consolidated 29 May 2026 text of Regulation 2023/988 requires manufacturers to maintain technical documentation, identify products by a type, batch, serial number or another element, and provide manufacturer contact information; it also provides for an EU-based responsible economic operator. The exact obligations depend on product and role, so the brand or importer should confirm applicable copy and supply it to the factory. These fields can affect label artwork, packaging versions and the number of country-specific variants in the quote.

Separate regulated or traceability information from optional branding. A hang tag redesigned for each sales market may create several small print runs even when the garment is identical. Conversely, a buyer-owned generic barcode sticker may be applied after production if the agreed workflow permits it. Show the supplier every variant and ask which items can share stock. Do not approve blank label space with an instruction to decide later.

Match Inspection To The Actual Production Lot

Inspection is not defined by writing AQL in an email. ISO 2859-1:2026 defines acceptance sampling schemes indexed by acceptance quality limit for lot-by-lot inspection and allows single, double or multiple sampling approaches. It treats the lot and sampling plan as controlled inputs. Before quotation, name the inspection unit, lot definition, characteristics to check, defect classes, agreed standard or buyer method, inspection stage, responsible party and required report.

A mixed order needs an explicit lot rule. Decide whether one lot covers all sizes of one jersey colourway, whether women's and youth patterns form separate lots, and whether labels, packing or personalised artwork are inspected within the garment lot or through another check. The selected plan may change sample quantities and inspection effort as lot sizes change. Ask the supplier or independent inspector to confirm the proposed sampling plan from the final quantity matrix rather than attaching a sample size copied from another order.

Keep sample development separate from bulk acceptance. State whether the quote includes a material swatch, artwork strike-off, fit sample, size set, pre-production sample, packing sample or retained reference. Identify freight and revision limits for each stage. A low garment minimum does not make an order lower risk if the buyer removes the samples or inspection records needed to approve a new pattern, material or label system.

State Packing, Destination And Delivery Basis

Describe the required pack-out before the quote: folded by size, bundled by player, packed by team, retail-ready by SKU or consolidated as bulk. Give units per bag or inner pack, assortment, carton limits, barcode and size-sticker positions, carton marks and split destinations. Custom printed packaging may have a different minimum from plain stock packaging, while player or store sorting adds handling even when garment production is unchanged.

US International Trade Administration guidance says an export packing list identifies the parties and shipment, itemises quantity and description, states package type and count, and records net and gross weight, package marks and dimensions where appropriate. Its Incoterms guidance explains that the selected rule allocates responsibilities for carriage, insurance, customs formalities, overseas packing and pre-shipment inspections, but does not identify the goods or cover every condition of sale. State the named delivery place and agreed Incoterm reference for quotation, then confirm customs and tax responsibilities with the appropriate advisers.

Finish the RFQ with destination country, consignee type, requested arrival date, whether partial shipment is acceptable and which party is to arrange sample and bulk freight. Ask the factory to show ex-works product cost separately from any quoted packing, inspection and transport where possible. Keep the final commercial description and packing totals aligned with the quotation because export documents must identify the shipped goods and quantities consistently.

Compare The Returned MOQ Breakdown, Not The Headline

Ask each supplier to return the same table with quoted quantity, minimum, price basis, sample route, included decoration, label and packing assumptions, inspection basis, delivery term, validity period and exclusions. Require the supplier to name the controlling constraint for every minimum. A fabric-dye minimum, label-print minimum and efficient sewing batch are different facts and may offer different solutions.

If the buyer's quantity falls below one component minimum, request choices without directing the supplier to hide the gap: use an approved stock material, combine only genuinely identical components, simplify a packaging variant, purchase and retain excess labels under written inventory controls, or revise the product range. Record who owns surplus components, how they are identified, where they are stored, how long they remain usable and what happens if artwork or legal copy changes.

Send Olinc one controlled brief for review: intended product and market, style-colour-size matrix, material and artwork files, private-label schedule, sample and inspection requirements, packing, destination, requested timing and delivery basis. Olinc can then confirm what can be combined and provide a job-specific quotation. The website does not publish a universal minimum because the truthful answer depends on the approved production configuration.

Turn The Research Into A Quote Brief.

01

Ask For Separate Minimums

Request the minimum by style, material, colourway, decoration, custom label and packing variant—not one unexplained order-wide number.

02

Release The Size Matrix

Give quantities by style, colour, size system and personalised variant so the factory can identify the real production lots.

03

Name The Destination

Supply buyer-approved label, traceability, language, packing and shipping inputs for the intended market before comparing quotes.

04

Price The Control Plan

Define samples, lot inspection, packing and delivery basis; a low headline MOQ is incomplete when these obligations are excluded.

Buyer FAQs

Questions To Resolve Before Production.

What is Olinc Sports' minimum order quantity?

Olinc does not publish one universal MOQ because the controlling minimum can come from the style, material, colourway, decoration, custom label or packing item. Send the complete quantity and specification matrix for a job-specific answer.

Can different sportswear sizes be mixed to reach an MOQ?

Sometimes sizes within the same approved style, pattern family, material and colourway can share a production lot, but do not assume this. List every size quantity and ask the factory which rows can be combined and which require separate patterns or components.

Do custom labels have their own minimum quantity?

They can. Main labels, size pips, care labels, hang tags, barcodes, bags and carton marks may come from separate processes. Request the minimum, setup, unused-balance treatment and storage terms for each custom component.

Does AQL determine the sportswear factory MOQ?

No. ISO 2859-1 provides lot-by-lot acceptance-sampling schemes; it does not set a garment factory's commercial MOQ. The final lot size and selected inspection plan can affect the number of units inspected and the quoted inspection effort.

What should a buyer send before requesting an MOQ quote?

Send the intended market, style-colour-size quantities, materials, artwork and decoration, private-label schedule, sample and inspection stages, pack-out, destination, requested arrival date and delivery basis.
